Brisbane Rock Climbing

brisbane rock climbing

Rock climbing is an indoor and outdoor sport in Brisbane. Beginners and advanced climbers may take part in climbing the rugged terrain of Brisbane or honing their skills at an indoor facility. For outdoor climbing, Brisbane offers high cliffs and exposed rocks. Kangaroo Point Cliffs extend along the southern side of Story Bridge toward the South East Freeway. The area is popular for beginning climbers and advanced enthusiasts.

The cliffs have been formed millions of years ago by a volcanic flow that left vertical facing rocks made perfect for climbing. Top rope climbing is the customary technique used in the area. The rocks are lit up at night and provide a beautiful backdrop to the city.

At the base of the rocks is a grassy picnic area complete with tables, benches, BBQ facilities and lots of trees.

Concrete bollards have been placed in various parts of the rock by the City Council of Brisbane. Vantage points are scattered along the rock and provide good viewing of the cityscape.
