Bridge to Brisbane Fun Run

The Bridge To Brisbane is a 10km running event that raises money for charities in Queensland. The course goes along the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge (the new name for the Gateway Bridge)- South. Next is Kingsford Smith Drive, and that is also where those contesting the shorter 5km event join the course. The Inner City Bypass, Mayne Street and Hamilton Place are next. The finish is along O’Connell Terrace and the event ends at the RNA Showgrounds Side Show Alley.

The race is run in the cooler times of the year in Queensland, around August and September. While there can still be hot days during this time of year, many days will have maximums close to twenty degrees Celsius. At other times of the year the temperature could be five to ten degrees hotter, not the ideal conditions for a distance run.

Winning times for the race are around thirty minutes for the men and thirty-three for the women. The 2010 Brisbane To Bridge women's event was won by Cassie Fien. Michael Shelley won the men's race for the second consecutive year. Other winners of the men's Bridge To Brisbane include Scott Westcott, Dickson Marwa, Patrick Nyangelo, Andrew Wilson and Darren Wilson.

In the 10km Bridge To Brisbane, the winner in the men's and women's races receives $2,000 in prize money. The second place finished gets $1,500, $1,000 goes to third, $500 to fourth place and the runner finishing fifth gets $250.

Winning the race is not the only way to win a prize. The Best dressed costume competition is open to those with imagination, and a costume. There are two categories for this prize, the Group that is judged to be the best gets $500 while the individual with the best costume receives $300. There are also random prize drawings for cars, holidays and other prizes. Entertainment is also provided past the finish line.
